George A. Reeves, Jr.

George A. Reeves, Jr., age 81, died Saturday February 10, 2007 at Tara Nursing Home following a long, patient and courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was born in Savannah, Ga., the son of the late George A., Sr. and Caroline Russell Reeves.

George was a veteran of World War 11 serving in the Navy aboard the USS Fargo with a crew of 1300 men. He was a Pharmacist Mate, 3rd Class Operating Room Technician and had the honor of setting up the first operating room on the new ship. Following his discharge from the service, he began a 40 year career with the Savannah Electric and Power Company before retiring as Supervisor of the meter/Installation Department.

George's mainstays in his life were a steadfast devotion to his family and a deep concern for others. He had a non-wavering deep and abiding faith in the Lord which was of great comfort and afforded him much peace throughout his long illness. He had a fervent passion for studying and sharing the scriptures with others. He also enjoyed bowling in company and church leagues with co-workers and friends. He received various trophies for bowling some high scores. He was a member of Bull Street Baptist Church during his early years. He joined the former Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church where he was a member for over fifty years. He served as an Elder, Deacon, Treasurer, Trustee and Sunday School teacher. 2 Timothy 4:7 memorializes George's life as a Christian, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."

George was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Clifford Reeves, his grandparents, Richard W., Sr. and Corrie A. Russell.

Survivors include his faithful and devoted wife of 60 years, Eva Mae Kemp Reeves; two daughters and son-in-laws, Andrea Larry McCoy of Murrells Inlet, S.C. and Carolyn Rick Whitson of Savannah, GA.; three grandchildren, Cassie Henry Challe; Mandy Jason Burzler of Surfside Beach, S.C. and Rick Whitson, Jr, of Savannah, GA; six great grandchildren, Savannah, Tybee and Carson Challe; Max, Jake and Grace Eva Burzler all of SC; two brothers, Steve and Charles Reeves and their spouses, Carlene and Gwen Reeves. He is also survived by his loving and caring care givers of Tara Nursing Home and Heritage Assisted Living Home whom he felt was his extended family.

Visitation will be on Monday, February 12, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel. Services will be conducted by Rev. Brian Jobe of Savannah Christian Church.

Entombment will take place in the Chapel of the Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
